The expiration of your green card can be found on the front of your card. You should check your card to verify that it has not expired. This package is designed to help your through the renewal process. The package is written without complicated language and provides an easy guide to fill out the application.

The procedures involved in organizing your paperwork can be time consuming and costly. Let the Immigration Assistance Center, an independent organization, guide you through a step-by-step system that will help enlighten you on filing your green card application quickly.

You are able to replace your green card if you meet one of the following requirements:

  • >>  Your current green card is lost, stolen, mutilated, or destroyed;
  • >>  Your card was issued to you before your 14th birth date and you have reached your 14th birthday;
  • >>  You have been a commuter and are now taking up actual residence in the United States;
  • >>  You have been a permanent resident residing in the United States and are now taking up commuter status;
  • >>  Your status has been automatically converted to permanent resident status, this includes Special Agricultural Worker applicants who are converting to permanent resident status;
  • >>  Your card contains incorrect data;
  • >>  Your name or other biographic information on the card has been legally changed since you last received your card; or,
  • >>  You never received the previous card that was issued to you by the USCIS.

Keep in mind green cards are not free and if you must replace your card you will be required to pay for it in most situations. The way an individual applies for a replacement green card is via the Internet at the website of the USCIS or else by mailing in form I-90. Different forms are required for certain applicants so the form you need should always be double checked with USCIS before proceeding. The form should be filled out and mailed in with the appropriate fee. It can take up to a couple months, and in some cases more, for the replacement green card to be processed and sent to the individual.
